Our Mission

I wanted a better world for my grandbaby. He is magnificent, exactly as he is.

 

He was never the part of the world I wanted to change.

 

When he was diagnosed with autism as a toddler, learning how he experienced the world deepened something I already believed: children need safety, understanding, and support to discover what is possible for them. They need room to learn and grow without being made to feel that who they are is the problem.

 

He lived too far away for me to change his everyday world. But there were children close enough for me to help. That’s why I created Wonder Haven.

 

It began with love for one little boy and the belief that we could build something better.

 

Then I learned I was autistic, too.

 

So much of my own life began to make sense. I knew the hurt of being misunderstood and made to feel ashamed without knowing why. The understanding I wanted for him was something I had needed, too.

 

I’ve always asked why. Why do we judge behavior before understanding what’s behind it? What is someone trying to communicate? What do they need? Who benefits when we stop asking, and who gets hurt?

 

The more I listened, the further the work reached.

 

It wasn’t only children who needed someone to understand. Adults were still struggling to be heard. Families were fighting to protect people they loved. Survivors were trying to tell their stories. Too many people were being harmed by the very systems meant to protect them.

 

I couldn’t keep asking those questions and draw a line around whose answers mattered.

 

Wonder Haven didn’t disappear. It grew into Wild Iron Grace Foundation.

 

I am autistic. Autism is where this began, and it remains the lens through which I do this work. Our mission reaches all disabled people and anyone failed by the systems meant to protect them.

 

My Promise

 

I promise to listen to you, not just to the people speaking about you. To take the time to understand what you’re communicating, respect your choices, and stand beside you when you’re struggling to be heard.

 

I promise to support you without taking over. Your life belongs to you. Needing help does not make it someone else’s to control.

 

I promise to ask the uncomfortable questions and follow the evidence, even when the answers are ugly, challenge what I believed, or make powerful people uncomfortable. I will not look away because I’m afraid. Funding, approval, or access will never buy our silence.

 

I promise to build tools and resources you can actually use, and to work to keep advocacy free for those who need it.

 

I promise to stand between you and harm wherever I can, and to take the heat when standing up makes me a target. You should not have to carry the cost of speaking up alone.

 

I promise to never stop fighting to change the world to fit you, not you to fit the world.
